Market case study for solar technology manufacturer
Challenge
Introduce new solar technology product to the market.
The client was a small solar manufacturing company whose product consisted of cement blocks fixed with solar cells which could be built up to build a solar wall. The technology was patented and had yet to be released on the market. As the client worked on completing the development of their product, the company needed to brainstorm methods in which they could best bring the product to market. The client tasked Alhambra with exploring the benefits of green microgrids and how their solar wall system could be used to build these energy systems.
Our Approach
To meet the client’s goals, the Alhambra team performed in-depth research on green microgrids.
The team researched the history of microgrids, microgrid technology, the market for microgrids, the costs, benefits, and financial incentives for microgrids, and the impact of microgrids in recent natural disaster events. To further our understanding of the systems, the team met with numerous experts familiar with the market for microgrids. In the latter half of the project, the client provided the Alhambra team with a set of key financials and costs describing the energy usage of a Berkshire County company. Using this information, the Alhambra team constructed a cost-breakdown of what the Berkshire County company could expect to pay and save if they relied on the client’s solar wall system as their sole energy source
Impact
Alhambra provided the client with an extensive case study detailing the research the team had performed.
- The case study included an overview of microgrids, including the market for microgrids, operation of microgrids, a cost and benefit analysis, and the current incentives for microgrids in the United States and Massachusetts specifically.
- Following the microgrid overview, a specific case study provided an analysis of the costs and energy generation of the client’s solar wall system if installed at a company located in western Massachusetts.
- Overall, the final report provided a strong argument in favor of implementing microgrids in the U.S. It found that client’s technology would be extremely helpful in implementing microgrids nationally.
