Labor market and HR analysis for care provider non-profit

Challenge

Understand the dynamics of the local labor market and create suggestions for how to optimize the client’s workforce.

The client offered a broad range of community-based services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Job vacancies—the primary challenge—were in entry-level positions paying just over the minimum wage. The existing platforms that the client used to find employees included their website, billboards, and job boards. Alhambra consulting group was tasked with assessing the labor market situation as a whole and ways to improve the recruiting and retention process of entry-level jobs.

Our Approach

The team conducted research on the Berkshire labor market during the Covid-19 pandemic and examined the best hiring practices to find and retain employees.

The team split into two groups to research 1) labor market trends and 2) HR strategies. The labor market team quantitatively examined national and local labor market movements using databases like FRED and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. They considered how COVID-19’s impact on unemployment rates and national hourly earnings varied based on demographics such as age, gender, and education level. The HR team inspected the accessibility of the client’s job openings, analyzing the organization’s online presence (website, social media, job boards) and the online presence of local competitors. Finally, members of the HR team sent in applications to both the client and local competitors to better understand how the client can strengthen their recruitment.
